A Visit With Ben Franklin

Ralph Archbold, who portrayed Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia for decades, passed away in March 2017.

Ralph Archbold began portraying Benjamin Franklin in 1973, and went on to perform as the Founding Father around the world. His family says, the sculpture of Benjamin Franklin that graces the Vine Street Expressway was modeled using Ralph's likeness. "May we always remember him, in colonial costume, doing what he loved best," said his family in a statement announcing Ralph's death.

So that's exactly what we will do here on Kids Corner!

Ralph Archbold visited the Kids Corner studios several times - most recently in 2007. Below you can listen to this special chat between Kathy O'Connell and Dr. Benjamin Franklin.

Our Gardening Guru Jeff Clarke of the Camden Children's Garden joined us at the start of spring to talk about - what else - GARDENING! Listen to his conversation with Kathy and the kids about how to start your garden off right, what's easy to grow and also learn some interesting facts about caterpillars too!

Jeff Clarke is the Garden Supervisor at Camden Children's Garden - you can see him just about any day they're open! The Camden Children's Garden is operated by the Camden City Garden Club.

The mission of CCG is to inspire and educate people of all ages by providing opportunities to improve their quality of life, health and community through horticulture. The Camden Children's Garden is designed for children and families. It is a special place to explore and discover the natural world. The four-acre garden provides horticultural experiences for creative and imaginative play.

Since the very first show back on January 4, 1988, music has been an important part of Kids Corner. Over the past quarter-century, Kids Corner has helped listeners discover fun, quality music for kids and the grownups around them. Over the past decade or so there has been a new wave of kids music ... we call it Kindie: music created for kids by independent artists. What does that mean? It means that these musicians compose, produce and perform these songs on their own without the support of a major company. They are independent and they are good!

Since we know how important the music of Kids Corner is to you - we've created the Kids Corner Music Channel!

It's a audio streaming loop (about 90 minutes or so) featuring some of the best songs by some of our favorite musicians. Below is the playlist and links to the artist's websites - as well as our media player. Click launch and enjoy the music!!
